Clocking in takes a few seconds: open the app at the work site, check that the map shows you inside the zone, and confirm with your face.
What happens when you punch
- Open the app and tap Clock in. The clock-in button sits at the bottom of the screen, in reach of your thumb.
- Wait for the map to settle. A dot shows where your phone thinks you are, and a circle shows the area your employer set for this site. Give it a moment — the first reading is usually the least accurate, and it improves within a few seconds.
- Read the indicator. Above the map, the app tells you whether you are currently inside or outside the zone. If it says outside, move — do not tap yet.
- Confirm with your face. Hold the phone at eye level in reasonable light and follow the prompt on screen.
- Check the confirmation. A successful punch is confirmed on screen and appears in your own attendance list. If you did not see a confirmation, the punch did not happen.
The position you see is the position that is recorded
The point shown on your map at the moment you tap is exactly the point sent with your punch. There is no second, hidden reading taken afterwards.
This matters for a practical reason: if the map shows you inside the circle, you have the evidence you need. Take a screenshot before reporting a problem — it tells your manager far more than "it would not let me clock in".
The screen shows your position while you have it open, so you can see whether you are in range before you tap. Your recorded attendance is made up of your punches.
Clocking out
Clocking out works the same way, with the same two checks. If you leave the site without clocking out, tell your manager rather than guessing — an admin can correct the record, and a missing punch is much easier to fix the same day than at month end.
No signal at the site? Punch anyway. If the app cannot reach the server, it holds the punch on your phone and sends it as soon as you have a connection again. Do not punch repeatedly — that creates duplicates someone has to clean up.
Troubleshooting: if your clock-in is refused
"You are outside the zone." Walk closer to the entrance and watch the indicator change before you tap. Buildings, basements, and dense city blocks all push the reading around. If the map clearly shows you inside the circle and the punch is still refused, screenshot it and tell your manager — the zone may be drawn too tightly.
Your face was not matched. Face the light rather than a bright window behind you, take off sunglasses, hats, and face coverings, and hold the phone steady at eye level. A single failed match is normal; repeated failures on a good photo are worth reporting so your enrolled photo can be refreshed.
"Face setup required." Your photo is not enrolled yet, or your consent is still waiting for approval. You cannot clock in until both are complete. This is a one-time step.
The map never finds you. Check that the app is allowed to use your location, and that location services are on for the phone itself. Indoors, standing near a window or door for a few seconds usually helps.
Nothing happens when you tap. Close and reopen the app, then try once. If it still does nothing, tell your manager rather than tapping repeatedly.
For managers reading this
Two things prevent most first-week problems:
- Get face setup done before go-live. It is the one prerequisite that depends entirely on other people's attention, and nobody can clock in without it.
- Test the zone yourself, standing where your team stands. A fence that looks correct on a laptop can miss the doorway by 30 metres.
When someone reports being refused, ask for the screenshot of the map. It separates "the zone is too small" from "the phone could not get a position" in one look.
